Laura Swarce

Counselor - Cello

Laura Swarce is a teacher and cellist from the South Shore of Massachusetts. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2024 with a Bachelor of Music in Pre-Teaching and a minor in Theatre. Laura was accepted into UNH’s accelerated master’s program and will be completing her Master’s in Secondary Education while student teaching in the New Hampshire Seacoast area.

During her time at UNH, Laura studied cello with Jacques Lee Wood and participated in the UNH Symphony Orchestra, String Quartet, and Cello Ensemble. Throughout these years, Laura also challenged herself to learn new instruments and participate in ensembles outside of her comfort zone. These included, singing in Concert Choir, playing saxophone in the Beast of the East Pep Band, playing percussion in Wind Symphony, and playing Trombone in the Wildcat Marching Band.

As a teacher, Laura has worked with the UNH Youth Symphony Orchestra as their cello coach, and as a substitute teacher in local school districts. She is often complemented on her ability to tailor instruction to individual students and maintaining a positive atmosphere.

Even outside of SMSC, Laura LOVES all things camp and works with kids ages 5-18 as a camp counselor all summer long. Some of her favorite favorite places to work have been UNH’s Summer Youth Music School (SYMS), Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, Camp Wildcat, and, of course, Southern Maine String Camp.

In her spare time, Laura loves to read, hike, and go swimming!
