Elizabeth Roy, Viola


Elizabeth was born and raised in Saco Maine. She was a part of the Saco School Orchestra Program as a violist from third grade at C.K. Burns all the way through her senior year in High School at Thornton Academy. She is now pursuing a double major at Skidmore College in Viola Performance and Neuroscience. Throughout her years as a musician, Elizabeth attended Southern Maine Strings Camp from ages 10-14 and loved every moment of it. She performed with the USM Youth Ensembles for 7 years, as well as the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra for 2 years, and was a member of the All-State Orchestra all four years of high school, two of which serving as principal violist. During her later years of high school, Elizabeth participated in the All-National and All-Eastern Orchestra Conferences and was a member of the Resurgam Quartet, coached by the Portland String Quartet, for 2 years. She began private lessons under the guidance of Margaret Hopkins for 4 years, followed by Julia Adams of the Portland String Quartet for 6 years. At Skidmore College, she now studies with Harold Levin. She has been a member of the SMSC faculty since 2017.
